Our Songs: #PrideAtHome Playlist for Pride 2020
COVID-19. Continuing injustice in America and around the world. Calls to action. And all before Pride month officially kicked off.
While most Pride festivals worldwide were cancelled this summer, our LGBTQ community is finding ways to celebrate themselves at home. It’s uplifting to see unique at-home celebrations, but we also see more calls to action. As police brutality against black citizens became a flashpoint again, the roots of Pride are shown again: protests, demands for justice, citizens leaving their homes to say, even exhaustedly, “ENOUGH”.
As we prepare for “Unity: A Call To Action” on June 20 - a day we planned for a more full-blown black pride festival - we wanted to think about the songs that keep us going this month. Peppy, upbeat tunes for the bursts of energy. Slower, mellow tunes to keep us calm. Rising anthems to join together to scream for equity.
These are the songs of Pride. And for 2020, we’ve chosen the songs that strike a chord in our hearts. This Spotify playlist is for anyone who can attend our upcoming call to action, for anyone who needs to stay home, for everyone in the beautiful rainbow that makes up our LGBTQ family.
This is the Upstate Pride SC #PrideAtHome playlist, and it’s for you.
