#HaltHate: SHOW OUT AGAIN to Greenville Co. Council

  • Greenville County Council Chambers 300 University Ridge Greenville, SC, 29601 United States (map)

Greenville County Council chairman Butch Kirven has called a special county council meeting on Wednesday, March 11 at 3 p.m. to consider a sunset clause that would include sunsetting the 1996 anti-gay resolution. We need to yet again SHOW OUT and remind the council that our LGBTQ family matters and are NOT second-class citizens!

The meeting is open to the public, but there will NOT be a public comment period after what happened at the March 3, 2020 meeting.

What you need to do:

-Still plan on arriving early if possible! The meeting may start at 3 p.m. but expect it to be packed again!

-Wear supportive shirts and memorabilia! The more rainbows and flags, the better!

-If you plan on printing signs, make sure they're no larger than standard copy paper (8.5 inches by 11 inches)!

-Be ready for anything, and even if it's sunsetted, don't expect this to be the end of the fight. Plan for next Tuesday's full council meeting as well (March 17, 2020). We still could face the possibility of seeing the hateful resolution on the November ballot as a referendum, and we can't let that happen!

-Engage in respect. There won't be public comment, but that doesn't mean those committed to harming our community won't try to heckle with disrespect. If you need to bring allied friends or family with you to help face that, absolutely do it!

-Speaking of: BRING THOSE FRIENDS AND FAMILY WITH YOU!

We can't stop now, folx. We WON'T stop. Let's #HaltHate in #WaitTHATGreenville
